Open Question: i need money fast. What do I do? Is it dangerous to do “sinful” things for $$$ if you need to pay for college?

i know that i am supposed to get financial aid but my parent income is high, they just won't pay for me to go to my dream school. I could do it if i got a few thousand a quarter. Oh, and i didn't say i was planning on doing something, so please don't start accusing me of things. By the way, has anyone ever been in a sugar dady, sugar baby situation? or done these "things" that i am talking about?

Open Question: First-Time Homebuyer Using Family Equity for Loan?

Ok, I am Durable Power of Attorney for my grandmother and maintain her health care options, financial affairs - almost anything to do with her life I guess you can say. Due to her son (my father) being irresponsible to say the least, she is left with minimal funds, although she receives an annuity of around $2k per month, but I have developed a budget for her and arranged some in home care for her benefit. I am a first-time homebuyer and have recently closed on a house. I was talking with her about how I'd like to take out enough to pay off student loans, house, and enough for upgrades and a few other minor purchases, and make 1, 15 yr loan payment. Here is a general idea. Any and all input is greatly appreciated! Student Loans: Mine: $60k @ 6.5% for 25 years Monthly: $405 House Loan: On closing day: approx: $9k for down payment & my part of closing costs Loan: 170k loan @ 4.875% for 30 years: Monthly: $900 Total Amount over 30 years: 405(12) = 4,860 (25) = 121,500 900(12) = 10,800 (30) = 324,000 Grand Total: $445,500 New Plan: 1.Grandmother (or I) takes out $270k line of credit or home equity loan against her farm which is worth close to $1 million and debt-free. I prefer a fixed rate and am willing to pay a slightly higher rate to lock this in. She has agreed and I am POA so I can do this in her name. 2. I take out $170k loan and make a few monthly payments (make sure loan doesn't have pay early penalty) 3. Grandma gifts 270k to my name (tax free). The first 13,000 goes unreported. The remaining $257k is reported to the IRS and deducted from her lifetime allowance of $3.5 Million (still tax free, but must be claimed if over $13k in 1 yr.) 4. Pay off the entire remaining home balance: (For easy example, use $165k). ** The house would be completely paid off and in my name. This would likely improve my credit, purchasing power, and still qualify for $8k tax credit. 5. Pay off $60k in student loans - virtually replacing with lower interest rate. 6. Remaining Funds: $270k-230k= $40k - The remaining 40k will be used in combination to furnish the home, do minimal upgrades, establish an emergency fund, and do a small amount of investing. Updated Plan: 270k @ 4.25 for 15 years: $2030/month Grand Total: $2030 (12) = 24,360 (15) = $365,400 By shortening loan duration and lowering interest, I am paying (445,500-365,400) $80,100 LESS while borrowing $40k MORE. In dollars alone, this is a swing of over $120,000! Also, without ever making additional payments, I'm COMPLETELY debt-free in 15 years. Once I start earning more, I can pay off debt much faster. This one loan payment is much easier for me to manage. Anyone have advice on this plan? Will it work, is it legal as I have researched and assume it is? Also, what type of loan would you recommend for this. Any input encouraged! Thanks! R.M. And as a lawyer, I assume you'd consider more details. I was in a hurry earlier and didn't want to go here but I will out of respect for the first couple responses. I am 24 years old, recently graduated college with a Finance Degree and an accelerate MBA. My father is a degenerate alcoholic. Whille we thought for years he was taking care of her financial affairs, he was in fact draining her estate. By the time I was aware, she had the farm (been in my family since late 1800s), about 20k in cash, 80k in stock, and a monthly annuity of $2k. She realizes my dad's problems and knows her money is depleting and if she goes into a home she will lose the farm. Since then she has elected me as a power of attorney - I have closed all accounts in my father's name, reopened seperate accounts and developed a budget that is allowing her to break even at work, and at times, accumulate some wealth monthly. She has had heart failure, kidney failure (dialysis), a stroke, the list goes on...I stay with her every night during the week and walk her to the bathroom several times each night. In addition her and I have setup a trust where I have control over my father's ability to steal her money. I would never take advantage of her in anyway. When I mentioned looking for houses, her exact words were that she'd rather me somehow use equity on the farm to help than to have my father drink it away. Sorry for the lack of details - I just didnt want to get into that area b/c I could go on forever...Anyways...back to the subject.. Ask me: the apple doesn't fall far from the tree? I am in no way using any of her funds. I dont see how this poses any threat to her whatsoever. I will [and have] done everything in my power to make sure she receives the best healthcare available and to preserve the farm in my family which would have been sold shortly after her passing under my dad's plan. I trade commodities and make good income. I take sole responsibility of her well being and will do anything to help her. I feel as if everyone assumes I haven't talked for countless hours about the plans and havent spent every waking moment making sure she is taken care of....bad assumption and straying from the topic... Help myself instead of my grandmother? She has 24 hours care from the best nurses in the area. I have done EVERYTHING for her. I pay all of her bills, do her taxes, clean her house, GIVE HER BATHS, drive her to dialysis, you name it - I do it... If you do the figures it's a no brainer. In the long run this could benefit her regardless because I'll be paying any bills she can't in order to keep the farm in the trust as she has wished....If her finances were depleted I could understand, but they aren't. A free home? Where are you getting this? I am paying back HER loan!!! She is gifting me the money but still owes on the home equity loan. I would be making the payments for her What do I need with a 170k home? That's an ignorant question at best - u have no idea where I live, the housing market, or the investment opportunities. I am only taking out the equity loan so I can have enough to pay off high interest loans, some house add-ons, furnishings, and leaving an emergency account incase either of us needed it. You have no idea what I've been through in order to preserve her assets. The farm would be long gone by now and she's be in a worthless retirement home if it weren't for my planning. Not to mention, I have not and will not take a dime from her........How is this hard to comprehend? Lauren, honestly you're an idiot....it's not a free home. I have paid for 100% of my expenses, school, cars, college, grad school all by myself....Don't tell me to "pay like the rest of you." It's a financial edge that poses no real risk to her. Bottom line, she offered it - You act like a 170k house is a lot? Regardless, I'm successful to this point in my life and have always remained loyal - I don't see how gifting the amount of the loan and repaying to her is not taking good care of her finances - she is financially solid at the moment...insurance pays $60k/month for dialysism etc....She has a monthly annuity/ss....she has stocks for some reserves....And she has me to step in at any time. Oh and as for poa being revoked, my father and his brother do not even call her - thanks for the criticism but why dont you still to the topic instead of running these schemes through your head. You know nothing that either me or her have been through and I'd do anything for her ....

Open Question: What kind of place in England could I belong?

OK serious question this. I am from an 'Oxbridge' town(one of the two). Father is an academic. Mother never went to uni. Was a nurse. They are quite well off. I dropped out of uni and am not very high up on a career ladder and haven't been so conventionally ambitious. I'm more into creative stuff than conventional ambition. Not saying that I'd reject money or financial freedom. I haven't liked some of the affectations needed to succeed around this class enviornment in Oxbridge, so haven't put on airs and graces. I have always felt a lower social class than some other people from academic families. Not to be cool, just because I want to be myself and be unaffected and I hate that affected demeanour and hate snobs. So I'm very ambiguous, a little conscious about what my class background is, and the uni looms large in the town and my Dad does this and I don't. So in that sense I feel I don't belong, on the other hand I've got emotional ties with the region. and it is my hometown. Yet there is a stagnancy about being somewhere to long, being too known and stigmatised. I love my creative stuff, my arts, feel the world deeply, love my political issues, like different sorts of people. So what kind of place, based on my details, could I belong? Is 'Oxbridge' the rigth kind of place for me in fact, and I could make more of it, or am I in need of a change? I mean to say, I feel a pretender as I'm not a working class 'Oxbridge' person, and trying to be so would be false, but I've never felt an upper class/middle class Oxbridge person, that has to be earnt as it were and I never presnetd myself that way. I am now not a graduate, so I don't know what class I am. Don't to seem like a rich slacker slumming but don't want to be some person putting on airs and graces when they ahvent achieved disnguishment..I dunno, real mixed up---can anyone relate or offer their common experiences? I'm wondering what towns are quite un class conscious yet vibrant and curious and interesting, maybe a Brighton or a Manchester? but I don't know them well enough...I'm a Southerner by heart. So, Am I just too self-conscious, could I make the it betetr here, or could this consciousness be escaped? I don't know if I offended you but I was lookig for genuine advice. Sometimes I meet a girl of a different ethnic and/or class background and feel she might judge me as an airy fairy guy, a rich slacker, or a non-academic with pretenses of being one(this occurs because I have a questioning kind of mindset, am obsessive and abstracted and want to figure out the world, am smart but feel I'll be judged as not having 'earnt' the right to talk intelligently as I haven't earnt the position to do it-I want to act proud cos I don't want to be humbel and I don't want anyone fucking with me, I don't see why I need earnt position to do this) It's the same with the commercial, business type sector, feel like I've been raised to abstracted and intellectual(stereotypically) to fit in there, but have respect for it. People just assume folks form an academic background are up themselves. The town should maybe be intellectual but rebellious, people say that about Manchester but I'm not so sure, guess it is seen as unpretentious. Thanks dude Greewnich sounds kinda cool Heln-if you're not class conscious that's admirable. I'm not denying that I am clas conscious , I am. I don't want to be, but in the South-East class consciousness is rife. Because the class consciousness is so strong, it's impossible to avoid it, especially in a place like Oxford or Cambridge. Surely you can empathise with that.

Open Question: Do indirect costs play a roll in deciding Cost of Education for Supplemental Student Loans?

I'm an independent student going back to school after ten years. I'm eligible for un/subsidized Stafford Loans of 12,500. Which just covers my tuition. I have no savings and no retirement plan to pull money from. I've been looking at options for supplemental loans, but everything I read states "cost of education minus financial aid." Is cost of education only funds paid to the institution or is indirect costs considered? What I mean by indirect costs are, books, transportation, off campus living, etc. Just looking for some clarification if anyone knows. Thanks

Open Question: Should i be feeling this upset? (Long story) =[?

I work as an Information tech administrator for the financial company AMP I put some updates through to some employee computers via the server and put a friendly reminder that when the updates were completed you will be asked to restart your computer. I also added that if you choose to restart your computer straight away that you will loose any unsaved work. So heres the thing, i get harassed by this financial adviser an hour later, she was complaining that she'd lost all of the days work she had been doing and said i should have warned her before doing something so 'Drastic' Now it's not like she wouldn't have gotten the messages i sent because the other employees thanked me for telling them first. Now i've just been feeling horrible all day, and the financial adviser is being real snappy towards me now. Do you think this is justifiable the way she treated me? I thought I gave her a sufficient warning, but now i cant stop feeling terrible.

Open Question: Doesn’t Obama care that he is making the guy ?

Why has Obama initiated an Economic Policy of " Obamanomics " = The MORE Money Businesses LOSE & WASTE.......the MORE Money the Government will GIVE THEM ? Why is Obama REWARDING Businesses and Mortgagors/Mortgagees who have engaged in BAD UNPROFITABLE FINANCIAL PRACTICES by giving them MORE Money to LOSE & WASTE and PUNISHING Businesses and Morgagors/Mortgagees who have engaged in GOOD PROFITABLE FINANCIAL PRACTICES by RAISING their taxes because they dared to run a profitable business or work harder to earn more income ? Why is Obama REWARDING + GIVING MONEY to those who chose to live BEYOND THEIR MEANS ? By teaching people to rely upon the Government for more and more of their needs, Doesn't Obama care that he is making the guy who lives within his means, pays his mortgage and works hard for a living feel like a " sucker " because before Obama became POTUS the guy believed that people were supposed to be self-reliant instead of relying upon the government to pay for their living expenses, home, food, health insurance, etc. ?

Credit Cards: How to Get Your Credit Card Application Approved

If you happen to be concerned about carrying your money on you and you think that there should be a better way to shop then you need to consider making full use of the new ‘plastic money’ – credit cards. With a fast growing economy that is also experiencing rapid growth many more people tend to want to shop and buy the latest gadgets and fashionable clothes and a lot more in the same vein. And, given the fact that modern lifestyles have become so fast and furious people today have no choice than to demand greater convenience when shopping. The advent of the credit card has solved many problems in this regard and now everyone from professionals to business persons to bankers and students and even teenagers shop and pay for their purchases with their plastic money.

Changing Our Shopping Habits

All you need to do is first understand how to get your credit card application approved and then you too can apply for, and after the application has been approved, use your credit card to shop whenever it suits you. The plain truth is that credit card applications and credit cards have changed our shopping habits and we are now less in need of physically carrying cash on our person than at any time before. This means that most of us have decided in our minds that we would like to trade in the greenback for the ubiquitous credit card.

However, before applying for your credit card you need to take a few precautions and also perform certain countermeasures to ensure that you are protected by existing federal laws. The first thing you should understand when applying for your credit card is that the entire process will take some time because your information needs to be verified.

The U.S. Patriotic Act requires that your particulars be verified and so you need to be prepared to undergo a minor ordeal before you can get your credit card approved. Most of us do not mind the added inconvenience because owning a credit card or two has become the norm. So, if you are prepared to face the ordeal and you are sure that your nerves can take the stress then you should go ahead and apply for your credit card.

The first thing you will need to do is obtain your Credit Report as too your Credit Score. Armed with this information you can begin the entire application process with greater confidence. You should check with the major credit bureaus including Equifax and Experian and Transunion and see which one has given you the highest score and then use that score when applying.

Next, you should be well acquainted with your creditors as this knowledge will help save you a lot of time. This means that you should try and get in touch with your creditors and even the different credit card companies and ask them what the lowest and minimum acceptable credit score is. Then you can crosscheck your own Credit score and see if you are in a position to proceed further. However, be sure to understand that certain banks use more than one Credit score before approving applications though the norm is for banks to check just one credit score.

In addition, you must also ensure that all your credit balances are actually up-to-date. And, you need to also dispute any outdated balances and in fact it is also a good idea to get in touch with your creditors and get them to report the proper balances.

You should also make use of your own household income and not individual incomes as this will stand you in good stead when applying for your credit card. Last but not least, makes sure to get in touch with your creditors and get them to provide you with information to help you get your credit card application approved.

Open Question: Training Help For Horse!?

Okay so I have a young 5 year old OTTB. When I bought him he didn't have these bad habbits, so I know it's my bad, not his. I've been more riding him then training him, which is a no no for a 5 year old. So my problem with him is when at the trot, he's penning his ears back, trying to go fast. When I ask for the canter, he tosses his head a lot. I just got him a month ago. And it's not a soundness issue (I don't feel ANYTHING and I'm generally pretty good at it) I'm aware that it could be something like his back is out or he needs his teeth done, but I really want to avoid that for now for financial issues. And so I wrote a little training thing for tomorrow. Here it goes; tell me what you think.. -Lounge at Liberty (5-10 mins) -Lounge on Line (5 mins) -Lateral Flexions (5 mins) -Walk on loose rein (5-10 mins) -Walk while softening taking and releasing (5 mins) -Trot on loos rein (5-10 mins) -Trot while softening taking and releasing (5 mins) -Walk on loos rein (5 mins) -Trot around arena both directions once -Canter right lead (better side) (5 mins) -Canter left lead (5 mins) -Trot both directions once -Walk both directions twice -Walk on cool down loop So, I'm going to do this for a few weeks, if no improvement, get him checked out for his teeth and back. What do you think about it? Well, he's been off the track for 2 years, it's not like he JUST got off of it, he was in FULL training for 9 months, so he's conditioned.

Open Question: Would I be able to collect unemployment if I was fired for stealing?

I stole a few items from work and later confessed. Obviously they fired me but are not pressing charges. Instead I signed an agreement to pay back the company on a payment plan. I am wondering if it would be possible to get unemployment until I find a job. Since the economy is so bad I'm afraid it could take longer then expected. I know what I did was wrong and I have Truly learned my lesson. Just looking for some financial guidance at this point. Thanks for the advice!

Open Question: HELP! PLEASE! How to convince my parents to let me go to boarding school?

I'm 14 and in 9th grade. I am normally bored at my high school. I go to a really good public school but I don't really like it. I have a few friends but they are always talking about sex. Its weird. I really want to be around more motivated people. I really really want to go to boarding school. I talked about it with my mom once and totally blew it. I know that it costs a lot of money to go to boarding school. I think that my family could be able to afford it if I could get some financial aid. I have good grades all A's and B's. How can I convince them that it is right for me? I'm not happy were I am.

Open Question: Is this a wise decision?

Ok, here's the deal. I transferred from a university to a community college to save money because I don't get any financial aid and now I'm thinking that I want to transfer back to a university to live on campus and experience all the fun that comes along with it, plus to be inspired by the other people my age that are doing the same thing. What do you think I should do, continue to stay home and go to community college and miss out on the experience or go back to a university? (PS, I could possibly get tuition reimbursement with my next job too, but that's only a maybe, help me out guys!

Open Question: Pls, i need ur opinion. What are some restrictions u can think of.? pls help?

There is a long list of benefits given by the government which are funded by taxpayers’. Assistance like food stamps, monthly welfare checks for families whose income is within the poverty line, Medicaid for people who cannot afford medical bills, and so on. These benefits being given are often being abused. Even though the government system is designed to help people in need like pregnant women with financial difficulties, it is necessary that restrictions should be placed on those patients seeking government assistance after conception. And because of the Nadya Suleman case, restrictions should be placed with the in-vitro fertilization process as well.
