Open Question: How do I cash someone else’s check?
My mother recently had a stroke in January 2008. She is now in a specialized nursing home. Prior to this she was receiving SSI checks and still is. She is unable to cash her checks due to being bed ridden. She cannot sign her name. Is there anyway I (her son) can cash them? The SSI checks are good for one year. So I have been keeping them for now hoping that in the near future she might be able to write again. I spoke with Social Security and they stated two options. They can suspend her SSI checks for the moment. However, I DO NOT want it to be suspended. That does not make sense seeing that she's definitely disabled now. Or the SSI checks can be delivered to the specialized nursing home where she is staying. I'd rather hold on to her checks/money myself. Does anyone reading have suggestions on how to cash her SSI checks? Or if it's even possible?
Her speech is seriously impaired to the point that I consider her not being able to talk.
