Open Question: Why am I receiving collection notices???

I had some credit card collections on my credit report. They were taken off my report within the last couple years due to the 7-year rule thingy. However, I am still receiving collection notices from the collectors stating that I owe them this money. These "debts" are no longer on my credit report. What do I do? If I call them and tell them that it's no longer on my credit report, can they put it back on my credit report? Do I just ignore the mail and throw them away when I receive them? Do I "Return to Sender" the mail? Please help! By the 7-Year thingy...I mean where they remove collections off of your report because of non-payment, etc. like an old account with no activity.
