Open Question: Canadian Law Question?
Serious replies only please. Anyways, This will be a very long story made short. About a year ago my employer accused me of theft. I was innocent but I was on a conditional sentence at the time and could not risk a criminal charge, (and they knew that) so I agreed to a financial settlement with them in leiu of criminal procecution. Fast forward a year. I have to date paid them nearly $2000 however they have recently come back to me demanding the remaining balance in full immediately. This is because the business is going under and I assume they are trying to get as much as they can before they go broke. Anyways, as im no longer under a conditional sentence I am very tempted to tell them where to stick it and dare them to come after me. So the question is, if I do say that ive had enough of being exploited by them, can they still have me charged with theft under 5K, or is this now a civil matter as I have paid them nearly $2000? Remember, this is CANADIAN LAW.
